Overview
Parent participation is supported, encouraged and applauded in all parts of the program. Parents are actively involved in the creation of learning plans, learner schedules, funding decisions, learning documentation, portfolios and in finding educators. All of these decisions are made by consensus of parents, Learner and Resource Consultant. Where Resource Consultants meet only monthly with the learner, parents are asked to commit to formally check in with the learner at least once per week and to work actively with the learner to make sure that all program requirements are met in a timely manner. The parent also has the opportunity to participate in VHCP government by serving on the Board of Stewards, attending policy meetings and being a part of the consensus process.
The Surface Creek VHCP has many resources available to assist parents as they participate fully in their child's education. The program promotes the optimal learning environment for each Learner and the optimal teaching environment for the educators. Education can happen on a schedule that fits the individual family, while utilizing the resources of the program. Each Learner is teamed up with a Resource Consultant to help in the educational journey. We also staff a Family Advocate, Curricula Advisor, Learning Specialist, and a Guidance Specialist to help your family with specific needs. $2,150 in financial support is also conditionally available to each Learner to support educational needs.
