College Planning

If you are planning to attend a four-year college or university you must complete:

  1. Higher Education Admission Requirements (HEAR)
  2. Admission Eligibility Index

Below is a chart that shows current curriculum requirements for college admission in the State of Colorado.

1. Higher Education Admission Requirements
SUBJECT UNITS
English 4
Math 4 (Algebra I & algebra II and geometry or equivalent)
Science 3 (Two must be lab-based)
Social Studies 3 (One must be U.S. History or World Civilization)
Other 1 unit of foreign language, 2 units of academic electives
2. The Admission Eligibility Index

The Admission Eligibility Index is a score derived from your ACT or SAT Test, Grade Point Average and Percent of High School Rank. As a student of home-based education, your best protection for admission to a college of your choice is to earn a high score on the ACT or SAT Test.

What do you want from your college/university training? You are going to invest a substantial amount of your own money and your own life into your post-secondary education and training. You donÂ’t want to waste a dime more than necessary, nor do you want to waste your time and effort. To make the most of your resources consider these points:

What are your own long-term goals?

  • What job will take you to your long-term goals?
  • Where do you want to live?

What education is required to meet these two requirements?

Where can you get the best education for your time and money?

  • Use Internet resources to help you find that best education.

  • Personally visit college campuses.
  • Visit with college advisors.
  • Shop around for what you want.

Research and plan your finances.
